Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Ensuring high quality nursing care is coordinated and delivered. Continuing to embed improvement in all that you do
  • Work as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team ensuring patient care is delivered smoothly, efficiently and safely.
  • Competence and confidence in the Band 5 role will be achieved through hands-on clinical practice, education and training and research.

This role is suited to people who remain calm under pressure, are good at problem-solving and have excellent interpersonal skills, with an empathetic nature.

Applicants must be able to work a fully rotating shift pattern including days, lates and night shifts, 7 days a week including public holidays.

Applicants must have the knowledge to provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care to patients in a pre-hospital environment. The Isle of Wight by its nature and geographical location provides a unique set of clinical challenges to practice in an autonomous way utilising your skills and knowledges as well as having the opportunity to develop new clinical skills.

You will have the chance to enhance your skills and knowledge in areas such as intubation, pre hospital sepsis treatment using antibiotics, thrombolysis.

It is likely your daily activity will involve working in a multi disciplinary setting in terms of undertaking critical transfers via hover craft, car ferry and other cross Solent options looking after your patients for an extended period of time.

Qualifications and Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration to diploma, advanced diploma or Newly Qualified Nurse with current NMC registration or currently studying for an Adult Nursing Degree and due to qualify in 2025degree level.
  • Clinically competent and Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • To listen and effectively communicate via various routes.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to prioritise workload, instruct and direct others
  • An awareness of research and evidence based practice relevant to clinical area.
