Job overview
We need your help to run the emergency heart attack service for the whole of Kent! The friendly, supportive CCU Team at the William Harvey would like you to join us in saving lives in Kent.
> Taking part in huddles/handover meetings with consultants, junior doctors, and colleagues from the Cardiology Ward.
> Ward rounds with consultants.
> Cardiac bed and patient flow management, liaising with the site team and cardiology registrar seeing referrals.
> Receiving primary PCI patients out of hours in the cardiac catheter lab, acting as the running nurse for those emergency procedures.
> Supporting clinical governance activities to maintain high standards of care within the service.
> Liaising with other Trusts/hospitals, including London Trusts, as well as the ambulance service, anaesthetics/ITU and other teams involved in emergency care.
> Collaborating with the wider cardiology "family" including Cardiology Inreach Nurses, Cardiac Rehab, Heart Failure, Physiologists, Arrhythmia Nurse, Research Nurse, Cardiac Radiographers, and Cath Lab Team.

Main duties of the job include:
Taking charge of the shift on Cardiac Care, overseeing the team giving clinical care to acutely ill cardiac patients.
Receiving referrals on the primary PCI pathway, triaging them and coordinating the team to receive any patient accepted.
Supporting, teaching and developing junior members of the team.
Getting involved in the management of the Unit, assisting the Ward Manager with e.g. rostering, investigating incidents, organising team days, and educational activities.
Managing cardiac beds in close collaboration with the MDT in the context of fast-changing clinical priorities and pressurised resources.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- At least 2 years' experience as Band 5 in acute setting.
- At least some experience in Cardiology.
- Registered Nurse currently on the NMC register.
Desirable criteria
- Experience as Band 5 within acute Cardiology setting.
- Evidence of facilitating learning in practice.
- Previous experience at Band 5 within specialty. Evidence of on-going personal + professional Development.
Clinical skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Delivery of evidence-based practice.
- Relevant practical skills, e.g. ILS, IV drug administration etc.
- Some skills in ECG interpretation.
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable criteria
- Advanced ECG interpretation skills.
- Teaching and IT skills.
Governance
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance Framework.
- Knowledge of audit processes and reporting framework to facilitate learning from incidents.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of risk management issues and improvement metrics.
Personal/professional attributes
Essential criteria
- Demonstrating patient-focused approach, compassionate with patients and colleagues.
