Employer heading
Clinical Fellow in Interventional Cardiology (ST6)
Clinical Fellow
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Intervention fellow to undertake dedicated high-intensity training in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at a high-volume centre.
Candidates should already have suitable training in general medicine including full MRCP or equivalent, and at least 4 years of General Cardiology experience. This post would be suitable for senior higher-specialist trainees (OOPE) or individuals who are post-CCT (or equivalent) and have a subspecialty interest in interventional cardiology. The fellowship is designed to provide the skills requisite to becoming an independent operator in coronary intervention including complex interventions. The post-holder will spend ~6 sessions per week undertaking coronary intervention in the cardiac catheterisation lab, 1-outpatient clinic and receive dedicated time for administrative tasks, continuous professional development and research/audit.
Main duties of the job
The Intervention Fellow will be based at the William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford. WHH is the main cardiology site in a trust serving a local population of over 700,000 across East Kent. The Kent and Medway PPCI service has been commissioned by NHS England since 2010. This is a regional service based at the William Harvey Hospital which serves a population of over 1.4 million across all of Kent and Medway. In 2023-2024, we performed a total of 1586 PCIs. According to the latest BCIS audit, we are the 5th busiest primary PCI centre in the UK. Alerts are received via LIFENET servers that allow rapid transmission of live ECGs for seamless communication between emergency medical services and our cardiac team who deal with over 5000 referrals a year.
Working for our organisation
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.
Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country. Please note we are only able to sponsor candidates for a Skilled Worker Visa for roles that are eligible at the time of application.
