Job overview

The East Kent Trauma & Orthopaedic Directorate was established in April 2000.

Inpatient elective orthopaedic and trauma surgery is carried out on 3 sites; the William Harvey Hospital (Ashford), The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital (Margate) and Kent and Canterbury Hospital (Canterbury).

We offer 27 days’ annual leave and active support for study, quality improvement and patient safety work as part of our ‘We care’ improvement journey, and medical education and research.

Main duties of the job

This is a Clinical Fellow T&O post offered on a fixed term contract starting as now, initially for 6 months. There may be an opportunity for an additional 12 months (subject to further interview) to be offered either in Ashford or another local Trust Pembury (Maidstone Tunbridge Wells), depending on progress. The post holder will initially work principally with one Consultant trainer for 6 months, and rotate to another
firm for a second 6 months. You will also be expected to become an integral member of the whole Trauma & Orthopaedic team.

The job plan will consist of regular fracture and orthopaedic clinics and trauma, elective orthopaedic and day surgery theatre lists, some of which are undertaken in Canterbury. It is expected that; the holder of this post will take a keen interest in research and audit and assist with the
preparation of the monthly audit and mortality / morbidity meetings in conjunction with the SHO grade doctors and SCPs.

You will work with the other Clinical Fellows and Specialist Registrars to provide Middle Grade cover and to support our active paramedical development programme.

The post holder will take part in the Middle Grade on-call rota. This is currently on a 1:12 non-resident basis.
