Children's Lead Occupational Therapist

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Job overview

Are you an experienced occupational therapist (OT) looking for a career development opportunity?

KCHFT is looking for someone with excellent knowledge of Paediatric community OT and an understanding of Kent-wide support systems to take on this secondment role within Kent Children’s Therapies.

It is important to us that all our staff are aligned to our Values and in particular the behaviours we expect from KCHFT managers.

With this in mind as part of the selection process for this position you will be asked to complete two other activities in addition to the competency-based interview that you will invited to. This extended selection process is designed to assess your management style and the specific details of the exercises will be given if you are successfully shortlisted.

The provisional date of the selection event is 17 September 2025, although this may be subject to change.

Main duties of the job

You’ll need an excellent understanding of evidence-based practice in the relevant areas, as well as knowledge of national guidelines and an ability to apply this knowledge to workforce planning and development, identifying the training and professional development needs of the OT teams and the skills and competencies needed to deliver the service to children, young people and their families.

You will work as part of the Kent Children’s Therapies leadership team to develop and shape the occupational therapy service offer, at a time when the service is expanding and developing. It will be important to develop strong working relationships with partner services, both inside and outside KCHFT.

You will have a sound knowledge of universal, targeted and specialist working, and an understanding of how to apply this in order to provide the best possible outcomes for children.

You will have strong clinical teaching skills and understand the importance of developing and motivating colleagues.

Must be able to drive.

Please contact Marian Nairac ([email protected]) or Ruth Clement ([email protected]) for an informal discussion about the role.
