This one-year secondment is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of clinical research in the community healthcare setting while developing research skills and knowledge of research practice. 

The band 6 Research Nurse/ AHP will provide clinical research support across community settings, taking responsibility for the management, co-ordination and facilitation of concurrent research studies. In addition to clinic/patient-based tasks, this role includes document generation and control, project tracking and logistics, data collection, adherence to Good Clinical Practice and Research Governance and assisting in the continued improvement in the care of research participants and quality of research data. 

The post holder will work with a Clinical Research Practitioner to identify suitable studies and, working with clinical teams, ensure that site feasibility and set up are progressed and managed in a timely manner.

  • Identify suitable portfolio studies to open across the Trust, working toward a broad range of open trials across the clinical services in the organisation.
  • Act as trial co-ordinator for a broad range of research topics.
  • Ensure that funding, indemnity, sponsorship arrangements and requirements for registration are fully in place before research commences within the organisation.
  • Facilitate and ensure thorough feasibility assessment is considered before opening a study.
  • Support participants through the consent process
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the need to identify issues which may impact on the process of gaining valid and informed consent.
  • Identify and recruit suitable patients to participate in research trials.
  • Regularly update all accruals data for National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies.
  • Collate and disseminate information on research activity and publications.

  • Competency in use of Microsoft Office
  • Professional registration experience (1st Level NMC/HCPC/GPhC or other professional registration)

  • Higher degree/formal study of research design/methodology in clinical or social care setting

Experience

  • Experience in the conduct of clinical trials
  • Experience of working in/with NHS clinical speciality team.

  • Knowledge of Information Governance and Data Protection

  • Knowledge of UK Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004 that implement EU Clinical Trials Directive
  • Knowledge of Research Governance Framework
