Job overview
The Anaesthetic Department at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital is looking to recruit dynamic and forward-thinking individuals to join our team of dedicated clinicians. Our hospital undertakes all vascular surgery for East Kent, urological (including major cancer and robotic surgery) and elective orthopaedic surgery. A range of day surgical specialties are also represented, including: dental and maxillofacial surgery, ENT, general surgery (including paediatrics), ophthalmology, Interventional Radiology, MRI and endoscopy. Emergency theatre cover is provided daily. Regional anaesthesia plays a major part in our service and we support sustainable anaesthetic principles.
Kent & Canterbury Hospital provides critical care services in a six bedded ITU and a four bedded, mainly post-surgical, HDU supported by dedicated Intensive Care Clinicians and Anaesthetists.
The Anaesthetic department and the Intensive Care Unit at Kent & Canterbury Hospital are active in education, audit and research projects if so wished.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to provide safe, anaesthetic care for a variety of surgical lists at Kent & Canterbury Hospital with an opportunity to work on other Trust sites, based on personal experience, preference and the clinical needs of the Kent & Canterbury department.
Anaesthetic services are provided for elective and emergency surgery in the main operating theatre complex of 5 theatres. In addition, there are 2 day-surgery theatres, 2 endovascular theatres, 1 ophthalmic theatre and a 4 theatre Elective orthopaedic unit. Anaesthetic services also support the MRI suite, endoscopy unit and intravenous line insertions.
As a consultant it will be of great opportunity to practice both upper and lower limb ultra sound guided regional anaesthesia and we are in a process to deliver day case major arthroplasty with the use of newer regional block techniques. There is an opportunity to become involved in the pre- assessment service. The post holder may be involved in the education of medical students, junior doctors and other clinical staff within theatres.
