Job overview

In joining our team as a specialist renal pharmacist, you will have the opportunity to become an expert in renal pharmacy providing exceptional care to a high acuity, highly complex patient cohort.

This role has been designed to provide additional pharmacy input into our dialysis and renal outpatient population, as well as to lead on some substantial medication cost saving projects.

There will be the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of renal pharmacy, with encouragement and support to develop knowledge, skills, experience and behaviour through mapping to the advanced pharmacy framework and renal expert professional practice curriculum.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the Job:

·        To operate as a specialist pharmacist in renal across the trust, supporting safe and effective use of medicines to improve patient safety

·        To lead on medication cost-savings projects identified within the renal care group 

·        To lead on the service delivered to our haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis population

·        To effectively manage and supervise pharmacists working within the renal pharmacy team

·        To deputise for the lead pharmacist for renal at pharmacy and care group level when required

Clinical skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy (post registration) showing clinical experience within various environments
  • Knowledge of core pharmaceutical needs of patients in various clinical settings
  • Time management, organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Systematic, methodical and attention to detail attributes
Desirable criteria
  • Hospital experience providing a clinical pharmacy service to the renal specialty
  • Understanding of patient safety issues relevant to pharmacy services
  • Knowledge of core pharmaceutical needs of patients in a renal setting

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy from a UK School of Pharmacy or equivalent as recognised by The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • One year’s Pre-registration training
  • Registered Pharmacist with The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Completion of Foundation Stage 1 of the Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Demonstrable knowledge gained through a broad spectrum of clinical pharmacy training and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate Diploma in General Practice Pharmacy i.e. completion of both Foundation Stage 1 and 2 (or equivalent)
  • Training and accreditation as a Practice Supervisor and Educational Supervisor
  • Registered with the GPhC as an Independent Prescriber
