Oral Health Practitioner

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

KCHT Dental Services are a high profile, dynamic provider of NHS dental services across East Kent and London. Our philosophy is to keep the patient at the heart of everything we do.

Every person that works for our Service, regardless of their role, comes into contact with our patients and visitors and so is expected to uphold our values, lead and collaborate through partnership working and strive for excellence at all times. We look for people who are willing to go the extra mile, not because they are asked to, but because they are committed to being part of a healthcare team that delivers an excellent caring service to our patients.

We are currently looking for an experienced Oral Health Practitioner to play a key role in delivering community outreach programmes, in the London borough of Redbridge, including fluoride application and tooth brushing schemes across a wide variety of community settings, ensuring the focus remains firmly on quality and safety. You will act as an ambassador for the Service, promoting the highest standards of excellence in working practices.

You will lead  on ensuring outreach programmes are delivered to the highest standard and play an active role in the stakeholder engagement programmes to promote uptake of the schemes. You will be responsible for directing and supervising an Extended Duties Dental Nurse and or chaperone and will support a cohesive team approach, developing and strengthening partnership working both internally and externally.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to oversee and provide a bespoke programme of evidence based oral health improvement interventions and training informed by national and local strategies across Redbridge to targeted groups by direct action and by working in tandem with and providing direct line supervision to Dental Therapist/s and Extended Duties Dental Nurse/s.

You'll need to be able to work in a very busy environment whilst remaining calm and be able to deliver the outreach programmes effectively through challenging situations, so the ability to work independently, proactively and under pressure is important. A positive attitude, excellent clinical skills and a commitment to best practice in clinical care and continued professional development is essential. You will be required to travel around London to reach the communities we serve.
