Employer heading
Locum Consultant in ICU
NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant
Job overview
This is a job advertisement for a Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine. The job has arisen due to recent expansion of the ICU service.
Main duties of the job
The weekend on-call starts at 1300 on Friday and finishes at 0800 on Monday. This is non-resident, but the consultant is expected to stay on-site predictably until 10 pm on Friday and flexibly for 6 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. The current frequency is 1:10.
The outreach component is mostly job-planned, and part of this job is to deliver weekday outreach sessions during non-hot and subsequent compensatory weeks. Single CCT intensivists will cover outreach sessions. These outreach sessions also cover the trust wide tracheostomy ward rounds, teaching sessions and continuing care meetings.
Twice daily documented ward rounds on ITU are mandatory, and all patients admitted to ICU must be seen by an ICU consultant within 12 hours.
The candidate will not participate in the on-call out-of-hours consultant rota initially. This will be under review in the future, based on the number of available consultants and service requirements. Initially the candidate will be covering half day outreach sessions at the weekend. Again, this will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
