Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Clinical Engineering Technician Trainee to work within our Clinical Engineering team.  We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual, to support Clinical Engineering deliver a range of medical equipment projects across the trust including the capital replacement programme. You will also be required to attend the trust apprenticeship program with support by our apprenticeship partner as part of your development.

Clinical Engineering is an essential clinical support service within our hospitals, providing whole life equipment management services for the range of medical equipment used to diagnose and treat patients throughout our hospitals. 

This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship.  All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based mainly  in the Clinical Engineering Department at 7 Newtons Court and will provide a comprehensive technical support to wards and departments. Duties will include carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and repair of a broad range of medical devices.

The post holder will be expected to work to high standards and to a high skill level, ensuring that equipment operates safely with a minimum downtime.

You will be working within a team of other Clinical Engineers, Managers, Supervisors and Administration colleagues at Newton's Court.  You will liaise with Clinical Technicians and Trust colleagues across all sites.

You will also expected to attend the trust Clinical Engineering apprenticeship program as part of the learning and development for this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

Duties you will be expected to assist with include routine maintenance, repair and calibration of low risk medical equipment. The role will include administration duties required for these processes in line with the Trust policies and procedures. There is frequent lifting and handling of equipment, tools, test equipment and components, so manual dexterity, involving good eye to hand coordination is essential.

Practice appropriate workshop techniques so that the department is clean and tidy to ensure a safe working environment for all staff

Have good interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team and follow detailed instructions to work accurately.

Help support and cover the Medical Equipment Library as and when required carrying out the core duties of the role.

Responsible for safe use of medical equipment and devices.

Update medical device equipment records using departmental database and specific software.

Evaluates medical equipment and devices; acceptance testing.

Follows departmental procedures; advice available from senior engineers and managers.
