Job overview
This is a newly created post within our Estates, Facilities and Capital directorate and a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual, with a strong estates background in project delivery and maintenance, to take their career forward.
The Trust has a number of new and significant estates led projects, consisting of new builds, refurbishments, lifecycle and backlog.
The post holder will work within our Trust team to support our capital projects team in the successful delivery of projects and small works, monitoring the work of both contractors and Estates staff with regards to building maintenance and installation works, to ensure that it is in line with Trust policies and statutory and regulatory guidance.
This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

- Providing support, advice, and guidance to colleagues where necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities
Become familiar with drawings, specifications, written instructions and appropriate standards and guidance documentation prior to the commencement of physical works
Become knowledgeable in the Trust’s existing Building Services and Systems infrastructure to ensure that new works are integrated into existing systems appropriately
Monitor the work of both contractors and Estates staff with regards to building maintenance and installation works, to ensure that it is in line with Trust policies and legal guidance.
Ensure that work is carried out to the appropriate standard including:
· The correct materials and workmanship are used.
· That the work being carried out is of the highest quality.
· Ensuring that it is value for money.
· Provide support, advice, and guidance to colleagues where necessary.
Inspect and evaluate works carried out and materials used, ensuring they are consistent with designs, specifications and appropriate standards
Coordinate with contractors, Estates Managers and facility users to arrange service isolations and planned interruptions, whilst making efforts to minimise disruption to the hospital’s normal business activity
Advise contractors on approved methods of working, site rules, Trust standards, policies and procedures
Coordinate and review contractors’ Health & Safety arrangements, including reviews of Method Statements and Risk Assessments, monitoring activity and reporting shortfalls observed to the contractor’s site representative and the Trust’s appointed project manager
Ensure all permits-to-work are regulated with regards to activities of contractors
Assist the Trust’s project managers in the planning and development of capital schemes through design reviews and feasibility studies

Person specification
Education and Training
Essential criteria
- Degree (or HNC plus equivalent knowledge and substantial experience) in a relevant engineering related discipline, including knowledge or related legislation and statutory requirements.
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification
- First Aid course
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification
- Experience in the installation and commissioning of building services and systems
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Sound knowledge of appropriate guidance and standards for development of healthcare environments, especially but not limited to Healthcare Technical Memoranda (HTMs) and hospital Building Notes (HBNs)
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety in a construction context, including CDM (Construction Design & Management) and Health & Safety procedures for aspects of construction work.
- Computer literate with good basic IT skills.
- Knowledge of legislation and codes of practice relevant to the post.
- Good planning, organisational and problem solving skills.
- Good knowledge of engineering contracting.
- Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and variations to workload
- Negotiation, communication and influencing skills.
Desirable criteria
- Proven knowledge of computerised control systems
- Understanding of specialist computer software (Power, lighting, BMS etc.)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of working with complex engineering services
- Proven working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Practical experience in construction supervision or site management
