Job overview

We are delighted to offer this rare and unique opportunity to join our Fundraising and Voluntary Services Team based at Darent Valley Hospital, to support patient care and the health of our local community via our official NHS charity of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust; Valley Hospital Charity (Reg. No. 1050861). The Grants Officer will be responsible for developing our Trust and Foundations income stream, which includes researching, applying and monitoring external grant funding, to help the charity increase its voluntary income to achieve its objectives.

In addition to this external facing role, the Grants Officer will lead on the internal grants process, supporting staff applicants on how to apply for grants, coordinating applications for presentation to the Charity Management Board, and perhaps most importantly, following up on successful grants, ensuring they are expended within the 3 month period and capturing the impact of the funding in well written reports/case studies to publicise the effectiveness of the charity, to encourage further giving.

This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship.  All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

Main duties of the job

 

The role is based in a team which is responsible for 2 work streams at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust (DGT): Fundraising (the Charity; ‘Valley Hospital Charity’) and Volunteering.

Valley Hospital Charity is the Trusts official NHS Charity, registered with the Charity Commission (1050861) and the Fundraising regulator and a member of NHS Charities Together. The Charity, on behalf of the Trust (Corporate Trustee), benefits from £’000s donations each year from grateful patients and their families, receiving support from community groups, the corporate sector and grants from Trusts and Foundations.

This role is responsible for developing our Trust and Foundations income stream, which includes researching, applying and monitoring external grant funding, to help the charity increase its voluntary income to achieve its objectives.

Managerial responsibilities: to include level of responsibility for:

Be familiar with and promote the use of Charity CRM System within the charity.

Managing income and expenditure for the grants programme, including providing recommendations to the Head of Fundraising and Voluntary Services where to invest and what the income forecast shall be.

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Fundraising Qualification e.g. Certificate in Fundraising Management

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of specialist volunteering practises, legislation and organisational policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan, implement and deliver training
  • Strong organisational skills including multi-tasking.
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working for an NHS/healthcare charity

  • Significant charity experience.
  • Experience of dealing with the public

  • Experience and evidence of delivering substantial charitable income through grants and foundations fundraising.
