Clinical Fellow  (ST3 Level) in Haematology

Full Time -40 hours per week

The new appointee will join the Trust’s existing Haematology team who provide a comprehensive in-patient, out-patient and ambulatory haematology service for the North West Kent with Dartford, Gravesend, Swanley and Bexley as its main urban centres serving a local population of approximately 400,000.

We will encourage the candidate to complete FRCPath2 during the training. The staff grade post can be permanent. The successful applicant will work as part of a very enthusiastic team lead by consultants in haematology and is expected to cover various services as described above.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to undertake outpatient clinics, which will be in general and malignant haematology. Procedure session will include doing bone marrow aspirates and trephine biopsies and removal of Hickman lines. Laboratory work will be supervised by Consultant Haematologists and will include morphology reporting of blood films and aspirates and authorisation of abnormal coagulation results in addition to training and giving advice in blood transfusion.

The post holder will be provided with office space, PC and secretarial support. The post holder doctor will be expected to take part in CPD activities and maintain record of relevant college (RCP or RCPath). Locum cover will not be provided for leave. They will be expected to complete Trust’s mandatory training

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

ON CALL REQUIREMENT:

On-call duties include 1 in 4 weekdays and weekend on call with consultant cover.

Annual appraisal on yearly basis and any disagreement regarding job plan or appraisal will be referred to Medical Director.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP or its equivalent at the time of application.
  • FRCPath Part 1 (UK)
  • FRCPath (UK)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years’ experience in medical specialities.
  • Previous experience in treating Haematology patients in a district general hospital setting with some basic laboratory training in bone marrow and blood film interpretation

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems Awareness of the basics of managing Haematology conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates ability in managing common acute and chronic Haematological conditions, including emergencies and Transplant patients
