The post holder will work as a member of the Women and Children’s Directorate team providing reception and clerical support, relieving midwifery staff of routine clerical duties and assisting with effective administration of the department.  

Full week cover will be required (Monday – Sunday), working hours will be flexible according to needs of the service, covering the hours between 8am till 10pm, at 3 x 7.5 hours’ days.

The post holder will work both as a member of the team and autonomously using their own initiative as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The Rotational Midwifery Ward Clerk plays a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of inpatient maternity services. Working closely with midwives, healthcare professionals, and administrative staff, the post holder will provide efficient and effective administrative support to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, coordinating communications, and supporting the daily functioning of the maternity inpatient areas. The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive, and compassionate, with strong communication and IT skills, and a commitment to providing excellent service to women, families, and healthcare colleagues.

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • English Language GCSE or equivalent and general education to GCSE level
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS training knowledge.

Knowledge and Skill

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • IT literacy
  • Standard keyboard skills.
  • Ability to work without direction and unsupervised.

  • Previous PAS experience
  • Previous skills using NHS IT systems.
