Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of our medical education team and will carry out various projects / roles to support the education, training and improved experience of our junior doctors, specifically ensuring that social determinants of population health care are considered and incorporated within the curriculum.

 

The role may include:

·       delivering education and training for trainees and / or multi-professional groups

·       engagement with key stakeholders to develop the teaching, including patients with lived experience from the community

·       providing mentorship and assisting trainees with their quality improvement projects

 

The role also provides the opportunity to gain insight into medical education processes and infrastructure at Trust and KSS Deanery level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Lead and contribute to the project, exploring how health inequalities influence outcomes, and the role education can play in addressing population health. Develop relevant teaching programmes with questionnaires to attendants to monitor impact. Develop leadership skills in working within and outside the department, engaging stakeholders and reporting to the people and organisational development group for assurance.

1.1.    To identify and scope project(s), work to deliver benefits in an agreed area based on investigation and diagnosis of need in collaboration with key stakeholders.

1.2.    To provide leadership to the project(s) including: initiating, delivering, coordinating, communicating, engaging stakeholders, monitoring and reporting on progress.

1.3.    To provide support and leadership to colleagues involved in the project work. 

1.4.     To lead, co-ordinate and participate in relevant meetings related to the project(s) and other agreed elements of the role

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in recognised medical or academic journals

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Project Management skills – experience of participating in or leading projects
  • Good organisational and time management skills
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership or management roles

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good career progression as demonstrated by employment history – at least 12 months working in the NHS
  • Experience in delivery of teaching and education.
  • Evidence of interest and experience in delivering teaching to medical students and trainees
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of setting up courses
  • Faculty on local or national courses
