Job overview

To provide a dietetic service to paediatric patients and their carer’s in a variety of settings as a member of the paediatric dietetic team, supported by the Band 7 Paediatric Dietitians.
The post will be based at Darent Valley Hospital covering hospital in-patients and general paediatric out-patient clinics at both Darent Valley Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital.
To provide specialist nutrition and dietetic advice and education to paediatric patients, relatives and carers for a range of conditions.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high quality dietetic service to paediatric in-patients and
outpatients, planning and prioritising workload, as part of a flexible
paediatric dietetic team responding to service demands.
To be responsible for hospital paediatric dietetic clinics covering a
variety of clinical conditions, for example faltering growth, allergy,
feeding difficulties and special needs requiring nutritional support.
To be a specialist dietitian within your clinical area contributing to ward
rounds, multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences.

Education & Training
Essential criteria
- Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or post graduate diploma or equivalent qualification
- Registered Dietitian by HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council)
- Evidence of relevant post graduate clinical education
- Trained in facilitated learning for under-graduate practice placements
Desirable criteria
- BDA Membership
- Member of Regional Paediatric Interest Group and/or National Interest Group
- Post-registration course in Paediatric dietetics
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to work safely and effectively without direct supervision but with senior staff guidance
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to include written, verbal and presentation skills

- Minimum of 18 months post-graduate experience in general Nutrition and Dietetics including complex nutrition support and MDT working

- Use of care protocols and care pathways for specific interventions and conditions
- Motivation towards extending skills and knowledge
