As part of an expansion to our Radiology Services we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to come and join our dynamic Radiology Team at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. 

We are looking for  full time Band 7 Senior Radiographers, with proven  cross sectional imaging experience and post graduate specialism in CT.

The CT radiography team works across 3 sites of operation - Darent Valley Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup and the North Kent Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

The Trust's Radiology Departments service the populations of Gravesham, Swanley, Dartford and Bexley, across 5 sites in total, including x-ray departments at Gravesend and Erith's community hospitals.

Main duties of the job

DGT has recently made changes to its Radiology department with the expansion of CT services at the purpose built CDC and the installation of a dual-source, dual energy Siemens Pro.Pulse CT scanner, which will be utilised to provide not only routine outpatient scanning, but high-quality Cardiac CT imaging.

The successful candidates will rotate through the 3 operational CT sites, providing senior support for other CT trained radiographers and taking a leading role in the day-to day running of the CT department. The mainly outpatient based workload at the CDC and Queen Mary's, Sidcup will require the successful candidate to manage the booked outpatient list and support the radiology department assistants with queries and IV cannulation. As the senior CT radiographer, the candidate will also be competent in undertaking Cardiac CT scans and already be competent in, or have the aptitude to train in undertaking Virtual Colonoscopy CT scans.

At the Darent Valley site, the mainly inpatient and A+E based workflow requires the candidate to be flexible in their approach to managing a CT day list, communicate effectively with staff in the wider multi-disciplinary team and  deal with the acutely unwell patient to achieve diagnostic scans.

Working days and or shift patterns will be agreed by the line manager to meet the needs of the service and will based on a 7 day service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Clinical responsibilities: 

1.1 To take a lead role in the running of CT 
1.2 To take an advanced/lead role in the Radiology department
1.3 The post holder will be expected to cover for the modality /service lead as required.
1.4 To carry out duties within a specialised environment as required
1.5 Support the modality lead in capacity management and utilisation of resources within the service so that workload is organised in an efficient and effective manner to ensure local and national targets (2WW and 6 week) are achieved.
1.6 To ensure that all patients are treated with consideration and care that is appropriate to their condition, using clinical judgment as to the optimum technique, selection of equipment and other parameters
1.7 Liaise with other staff to ensure the smooth running of the Radiology services
 1.8 To comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Ionising Radiations 
1.9 Regulations 1999, the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 and the departmental protocols for the implementation of IR(ME)R 
1.91 To abide by the local rules for radiation protection and MRI safety
1.92 To take part in the provision of an out-of-hours service
1.93 To take part in the department’s Quality Assurance programme, including regular testing of the Radiology equipment
1.94 To be aware of the principles of clinical governance and ensure that working practices conform to these principles
1.95 Maintain professional standards at all times

2. Managerial responsibilities:

2.1 To deputise for the Superintendents/Leads as required, ensuring that available resources are used efficiently and effectively
2.2 Participate in the development and implementation of protocols and procedures
2.3 Take an active part in clinical audit
2.4 Participate in all aspects of patient record keeping undertaken within the department, including entering data on the Radiology Information System
2.5 Demonstrate a planned approach to managing time
2.6 Consider other people and available resources
2.7 Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations, Data Protection Act, Trust and Directorate policies are implemented
2.8 Be aware of and take an active role in ensuring Radiology works toward meeting the targets and key objectives of the Trust
2.9 Report all equipment faults or unsafe areas to the Clinical Superintendent of that area
2.91 Undertake PDRs supporting the Trusts and departmental objectives

3. Professional responsibilities:

3.1 To observe Trust, departmental, College of Radiographers and Health Professions Council codes of conduct and standards of proficiency
3.2 To maintain State registration as required by the HCPC
3.3 To participate in mandatory training requirements

4. Education and development responsibilities:

4.1 To keep up to date in all new techniques and trends and be able to demonstrate Continuing  Professional Development
4.2 To incorporate evaluation into working practices in order to achieve objectives and ensure effectiveness
4.3 To reflect and learn from the practice of self and others
4.4 To participate and active role in the training and mentoring of radiographers and student radiographers
