An exciting opportunity has opened up to join our Interventional Radiology nursing team in Bonsai Ward.

Main duties of the job
To take an advanced role in the activities within the Radiology departments, in specialised areas as required, maintaining a high standard of care at all times. You will be expected to work autonomously, organise the running of clinics as well as scrub duties and recovery.
To assist in booking patient lists and pre admission assessment of patients. To deputise for the Sister when required and to supervise junior staff
To communicate effectively with internal and external agencies. To undertake Continual Professional Development
To adhere to Trust and Departmental policies and procedures

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities
1. Clinical responsibilities:
To take an advanced role in the activities of the Radiology department
To carry out duties within a specialised environment as required
To assist with patient selection, the organisation of the admission, care
and discharge or transfer of patients
To ensure that all patients are treated with consideration and care that is
appropriate to their condition, using clinical judgment as to the optimum
technique, selection of equipment and other parameters
Assists in maintaining custody of controlled drugs by ordering, checking
and administering and ensuring their safe handling and administration.
Liaise with other staff to ensure the smooth running of the Radiology
services
To comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Ionising
Radiations Regulations 1999, the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures)
Regulations 2000 and the departmental protocols for the implementation of
IR(ME)R
To abide by the local rules for radiation protection
To take part in the provision of an out-of-hours service
To be aware of the principles of clinical governance and ensure that
working practices conform to these principles
Maintain professional standards at all times
2. Managerial responsibilities:
To deputise for the Sister as required, ensuring that available resources
are used efficiently and effectively
Participate in the development and implementation of protocols and
procedures
Take an active part in clinical audit
Participate in all aspects of patient record keeping undertaken within the
department, including entering data on the Radiology InformationSystem
Demonstrate a planned approach to managing time
Consider other people and available resources
Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations, Data Protection Act, Trust
and Directorate policies are implemented
Be aware of and take an active role in ensuring Radiology works toward
meeting the targets and key objectives of the Trust

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Essential criteria
- First level registered nurse
- Evidence of CPD
- IV administration/ IV Sedation Training
- ILS Training
Desirable criteria
- Prep for Mentorship course or equivalent
- RS0/Relevant Course
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in radiology, acute or critical care setting
- Ability to carry out essential and appropriate nursing care and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm towards teaching and sharing knowledge
- Ability to prioritise clinical work effectively
Desirable criteria
- Ability to undertake interventional treatment in a manner that is evidence based practice, clinical guideline and protocol.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels across the department and the Trust
