Are you interested in helping to provide a safe, high quality decontamination service to patients at Daren’t Valley Hospital?
Are you interested in developing your knowledge and skills in the decontamination and sterilisation of surgical instruments?
1 x Permanent Late Position working Monday to Friday from 12.00pm to 20.00pm.
The job involves the cleaning, decontamination and sterilising of re-usable surgical instruments and equipment to support the Trust in the provision of care for patients. We work closely with our operating theatres and clinics to provide safe, sterile instruments and equipment at the time they are needed.
We will provide in house training in all areas of the department, fully supporting your professional development.
This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

Main duties of the job
You must be willing to undertake in-house training and prepared to work shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays. You must be conscientious and have the ability to give attention to detail. You must have good verbal and written skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
This vacancy requires manual dexterity; as heavy lifting is involved.
The Unit
The unit is currently open from 7.30 a.m. to 20.00pm weekdays and 08.00 to 16.00 at weekends. This will change if demands for our services increase. We are a small friendly team with a commitment to high standards and meeting the needs of our customers in this critical area. Without the safe reprocessing of re-usable sterile instruments and equipment patients would not be able to have their operations and outpatient procedures. We are accredited to the ISO Standards and constantly seek to maintain and improve our quality standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide basic clinical technical service to clean, sterilise and pack theatre and other clinical equipment.
Maintain accurate processing records to enable the tracking and traceability of surgical instruments to individual patients.
Undertake NVQ training as required by the Trust to enable national standards to be met.
Lift and manoeuvre instrument trays / trolleys.

Essential criteria

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
