Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a experienced Band 6 /7 registered nurse looking to expand their management and leadership skills in running a nurse-led haemodialysis satellite unit  This post is for  37.5 hours a week based in Buckland hospital 

The working times are  06:30-18:30 when working clinically otherwise  06:30 till 16:30 /17:30  These times will change due to service needs. This is on rostered basis including weekends and on call Monday to Saturday and bank holidays

We are looking for an individual who is experienced in haemodialysis and had some management/leadership experience. Within this role you will be managing a small team and be responsible for cohort of dialysis patients.

The unit currently has 46 patients doing three times a week dialysis Monday to Saturday morning and afternoon 

The main duties of this role include providing leadership and support to dialysis unit team in delivering haemodialysis treatment to patients . This will include undertaking patients clinical assessments which includes  fluid status,  treatment prescriptions, anaemia, transplant and diabetes management.

 The post holder will be expected to do on-call and if needed support other units across East and West Kent

 

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership to the unit team, ensuring high standards of research based practice and clinical care.

 The post holder will use teaching, facilitation and supervisory skills to develop and maintain safe competent practice within a clinical environment conducive to reflective practice

Management of staff  including sickness management, rostering of staff, performance reviews along with being responsible for finance including management of unit budget and the health and safety .

The post holder will be the first point of contact for patients and relatives and will be responsible for the management of complaints, care and management of the dialysis patients and will be liaising with patient transport.

 

To ensure that the nursing staff within areas of responsibility in the dialysis unit  are developed to offer a professional, skilled, competent and quality service  . To ensure standards and service requirements are met within the home dialysis department

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 4 Years renal experience, two of which at Band 6 level in Haemodialysis
  • Demonstrable experience in managing change.
Desirable criteria
  • Some experience in budget management

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Diploma/Degree
  • ENB 998/ Mentor Preparation ENB 136 or relevant qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership programme 1st degree or willing to work towards
