Main duties of the job

We are currently seeking a midwife to cover maternity leave in our Folkestone Community Team until February 2027. 

We are looking for you to be an active team member providing the full range of midwifery care at the same time as developing your skills in order to become an advanced midwifery practitioner.

To enhance your midwifery role by developing excellent leadership and managerial skills to ensure a dynamic and innovative approach to team building / performance.

You may be required to change your area on a temporary basis to maintain service provision and develop your practice as required. As we move forward with our Continuity of Carer teams you will be expected to join a continuity team to achieve the Trust ambition of implementing Better Births

You will be required to develop your competencies set out in the practice portfolio relating to the knowledge and skills framework for Band 6. To develop competencies in line with working towards development of band 7.

Due to the varied settings and requirements of this position it may be an essential requirement that the successful candidate must possess a full driver’s license and/or have access to a vehicle that can be used for work purposes, subject to the provisions of the Equalities Act (2010).

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Demonstration of previous experience in relation to the knowledge and skills framework expected for Band 6. Midwife on practising register.
  • Evidence of further study ENB 997/Preparation for mentorship course or equivalent.
  • Be prepared to undertake further academic study

Clinical Skills & Experience

Essential criteria
  • The ability to converse at ease with women and their families and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
  • Ability to work towards and demonstrate completion - Induction pack -
  • Preceptorship pack -Practice portfolio - Work independent and supervise Junior staff.
  • Working towards Band 7 skills framework Competencies and clinical skills related to the knowledge and skills framework for Band 6
  • Communication and inter personal skills (verbal and written) Organisational prioritising skills

Governance

  • NMC publications including: - Midwives rules and code of practice
  • Understanding of research related to midwifery
  • Awareness of current issue in Health Care
  • Understands role supporting staff through the appraisal mentorship and preceptorship process
