Job overview
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) to join our team on a temporary basis covering maternity leave.
In this role, you will work semi-autonomously under the direct supervision of an experienced, HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist. As a scientist-practitioner, you will use psychological knowledge, research, and theory to reduce psychological distress and enhance the well-being of adults with learning disabilities, their families, and paid carers.
Working alongside MHLD colleagues, Community Learning Disability Teams, and external partner organisations, you will deliver evidence-based interventions, support service development, and provide specialist advice and training across the service.
Please note Visa Sponsorship is unavailable for this post.
Main duties of the job
-
Clinical Assessment & Intervention: Deliver comprehensive assessments, formulations, and tailored psychological interventions (including Positive Behaviour Support) for complex clinical presentations within your scope of practice.
-
Risk Management & Safeguarding: Identify clinical risks early, evaluate conflicting factors in complex situations, and determine when specialist assessment or treatment is required.
-
Caseload Management: Oversee and manage your own clinical caseload under appropriate supervision, utilizing a range of evidence-based assessment tools to evaluate predisposing and precipitating factors.
-
Evaluative & Reflective Practice: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of your interventions with service users, proactively seeking additional consultation or supervision whenever a case falls outside your scope of competence.
-
Training & Consultation: Deliver training, offer specialist advice, and provide clinical guidance to families, paid carers, multi-disciplinary teams, and partner agencies.
-
Service Development & Leadership: Assist in service development initiatives, contribute to clinical decision-making processes, and support evaluation projects to help maintain high-quality, cost-effective care.
Working for our organisation
We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway.
Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD.
Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve.
Our vision is simple: we are here to help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well. It’s why we’re passionate about working with communities to make mental health care better for everyone. Everything we do is guided by our values: caring, inclusive, curious and confident.
Join us if you share our passion for better mental health care and want to be part of a team that’s working well together.
