We are recruiting for a Senior BI Analyst who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

This post is in the Reporting Team, within the Business Intelligence (BI) Department.  The post is designated to manage need, expectation, delivery and process of all regular and ad-hoc reporting within the BI function.  In addition, the post will deputise for the Heads/Leads of Reporting, when necessary, plus help manage a team of Junior BI Analyst’s ensuring full delivery of regular and ad-hoc reporting

Main duties of the job

This role leads on three critical business areas. Firstly, ensure all Regular Reporting, including key areas such as the IQPR, key internal/external reports and Mandatory Return responsibilities are delivered and managed accordingly through appropriate processes and assurance. 

Importantly, it will look to improve all aspects of reporting, following the BI Team Rules of Engagement. 

Secondly, support and deputise for the BI Reporting Leads and support the divisional (and wider Trust) BI needs through enhanced engagement, interaction and training. 

Thirdly, ensure appropriate management of your workload, including any delegated work, Ad-Hocs and FOIs (in addition to your regular reporting tasks) plus deliver a high quality, efficient and effective service

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The ability of the Trust to analyse and manage its clinical and business operations is fundamental to the Trust’s success as a Foundation Trust.

Reporting to BI Reporting Leads, you will be expected to interpret Professional, NHS and Trust policies and regulations in order to lead and advise the Operational and Clinical areas on all information management issues, formulating information strategies to support achievement of delivery targets.

Promote the ownership and achievement of activity, data and performance targets within the Trust whilst providing expert advice and strategic leadership on complex information issues

The Post-Holder will lead the local implementation of the Trust’s BI Strategy, that a comprehensive, effective, efficient and customer-focused information service is delivered to the Trust as a whole, and that appropriate skills are available across the Trust to make maximum use of the Trust’s information resource. 

You will work closely with the wider team of analysts to develop skills and ensure reporting, in particular, has continuity of service at all times.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience in an analyst role

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of Information Flows, NHS Data Standards and all NHS Datasets
  • Extensive knowledge of NHS services and associated informatics / BI requirements
  • Knowledge of mandated NHS datasets/returns e.g. MHMDS, CDS, NHS EI, SUS etc
  • Expert knowledge of NHS targets, definitions and monitoring methodologies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-qualification experience working in a large multidisciplinary organisation, within a database / information environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the NHS, or wider health market, in an information analysis / management role Proven experience of managing datasets & visualising data
  • Managing a busy workload with conflicting priorities
  • Working in the NHS or in a similar environment

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, building relationships with colleagues, being customer focused
  • Specialist analytical skills including the ability to reconcile data sets and document variation
  • Ability to manage a team of people and experience of in previous roles is essential
  • Strong customer service skills where negotiation and influencing skills may be required
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, capable of communicating with all levels of staff, often technical or highly complex subjects, capable of negotiation and persuasion with staff outside of the department
