Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is an innovative new post combining two exciting opportunities for an ambitious resident surgical registrar. As well as continuing their clinical surgical work during the week, they will join the National GIRFT fellowship programme for part of the week and also be the Surgical Chief Registrar for MFT. It is anticipated that the local GIRFT project work at Medway with overlap with the Chief Registrar project work requirements. This will allow an organised driven candidate to be recognised by two influential national organsiations as well as leaving a legacy of patient-focussed outcomes at MFT. There will be close mentorship from Surgical DMD, CMO Office and Medical Education as well as clinical supervision for the development of their surgical logbooks and portfolio.

Essential criteria
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- Be fit to practise
- Should be NTN ST4 or above
- Can include locally employed doctors at experience equivalent to ST4 or above
- Should not already hold a CCT or expected to leave the programme before completion
- Must have approval of TPD to apply (NTNs
- Evidence of satisfactory / more than satisfactory progress through training, including annual review of competence progression (ARCP) outcomes or appraisal
Desirable criteria
- Additional relevant degree (intercalated, master’s or doctorate)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and experience of teaching and educational issues, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, commensurate with level of training
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of clinical competencies in their specialty appropriate for their stage in training (or equivalent)
- An appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Ability to prioritise clinical need
- Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk

- Understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
