Main duties of the job

We are seeking applications from highly-motivated individuals for full-time/part-time positions, who will enhance the existing highly-functioning, award-winning, and supportive team of thirteen consultants to provide excellent clinical care and supervision with robust shop-floor leadership and inspiring education, and expanding the consultant workforce to sixteen. 

Dual accreditation is welcomed e.g. Paediatric EM or ICU. Pre-hospital opportunities are being developed with our local partners for a planned Physician Response Unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The ED at Medway has a strong reputation for education and simulation, for all staff.  Our focus on high quality development has been reflected in our recent CQC report and HE Deanery Quality Visit.

We are progressive with diversification of workforce, compassionate leadership and flexible working conditions to aid recruitment and retention. The ED shares learning from adverse incidents and celebrates excellence with GREATIX.

We are a major acute centre and designated Trauma Unit, with additional services on site.  There is a large Critical Care department, a Tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the regional Urological Cancer Centre.

The consultant will supervise and train the junior and middle grade doctors in emergency medicine, Physician Associates (PA), Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) and the Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENP).

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in emergency medicine and related fields which would be appropriate to CESR requirements
  • FRCEM or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice
  • Has specialist registration in Emergency Medicine or within 6 months CCT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate training in Emergency Medicine.
  • Experience of teaching doctors in training and undergraduates.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Provider for ALS, APLS, ATLS (instructor is desirable).

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level.
  • Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role of consultant.
  • Ability to inspire, lead and motivate.
