Main duties of the job
This post holder with the Paediatric team will play a key role in supporting the management of these CYP.
The post holder will also facilitate relevant training, supervision / debriefing and support the Paediatric team, and facilitate and act as the interface between ChED, PAU, Paediatric ward, Crisis Team for C&YP, All Age Eating Disorder (AAEDS) and Children and Young People Mental Health Service practitioners (CYPMHS).
They will provide expertise and vision in developing and improving services for C&YP, support and deputise for the Clinical Nurse Lead for Mental Health (for Paediatrics only).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to facilitate safe and timely assessments and ongoing support to C&YP who present in a mental health crisis.
The post holder will help to develop and deliver robust educational interventions for the Paediatric nursing team, that promotes best practice in the management of C&YP experiencing, or at risk of self-harm (with the MFT Paediatric PDN).
They will support staff within the units to appropriately risk assess, support care provision and attend MDT meetings to support the pathway of C&YP with mental health conditions within the Medway Foundation NHS Trust.
· Working alongside the Children and Young Persons Mental Health Service (CYPMHS) Crisis Team and All Age Eating Disorder Services (AAEDS) to assist staff to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing provision for C&YP who have an identified mental health need
Support staff to develop and implement specialist nursing protocols, developing care packages and programs of care for C&YP who self-harm or have an eating disorder, including the involvement of multi-agency input around the C&YP and their family’s needs

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Evidence of a relevant post-registration professional development
- Degree or willingness to work towards
- Teaching/ Assessing Qualification.
- RMN/ RSCN / RN Child
Desirable criteria
- Specialist course relevant to post
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Significant experience as a Band 6 post involving care of acute paediatrics
- Experience of working with children and young people who have a mental health illness
- Knowledge of the appropriate legislation around mental health act and the legal frameworks within which mental illness can be assessed and treated
- Knowledge and experience of undertaking comprehensive C&YP mental health, assessments and risk management
- Proven management and safeguarding experience
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance
- Knowledge of local community and understanding of a multi-cultural, racially diverse population
- Knowledge of current professional issues relating to nursing
Desirable criteria
- Experience working for Children and Young People Mental Health Mental Health Serivce (CYPMHS) within an acute/specialist mental health team – community or inpatient service
- Post registration study

- Ability to support and manage a case-load of patients including assessment, planning, monitoring and evaluation, including providing health promotion and education to patients and carers
- Ability to organise and deliver a high standard of evidence based clinical nursing care
- Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Act as a patient advocate and staff advocate
- Ability to liaise and collaborate effectively with members of the Primary Health Care team, shared care teams and tertiary centres
- Ability to liaise effectively with internal and external agencies
- Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise work
