We’re looking for an experienced, passionate, motivated Aseptic Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic Pharmacy Services team. This is a unique opportunity to work as part of the Aseptic unit pharmacy team.

Main duties of the job
Be a specialist Aseptic pharmacy technician expert in a defined area of speciality developing and delivering an Aseptic pharmacy service.
Support and manage the day-to-day pharmacy Aseptic service provided to Lawrence Ward and Galton Day Unit, ensuring patients receive treatment within agreed timeframes.
Act independently as a Team Leader and work according to local procedures and guidelines. Allocate and check work of technicians, assistants in your team, referring to the Principal Technician for further assistance, guidance and support.
To manage the daily planning and organisation of workload & staff within your team to ensure a prompt and responsive service, adhering to all national, regional and departmental standards.
Participate in the general organisation of the Pharmacy Aseptic Suite to ensure that there is a safe and effective workflow and the Aseptic Suite is always neat and tidy.
Contribute to the induction and in-house training of staff of all grades, in aseptic technique and daily organisation, demonstrating the high levels of dexterity and accuracy required.
To participate in the maintenance of up to date training records for technical staff.
To perform as an Aseptic pharmacy technician “authorised accuracy checker”, maintaining an appropriate level of competency

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be responsible for the completion of workload schedules informing Principal Technician of any discrepancies or issues as they arise.
To assist the Principal Technician planning, organising and managing the workload in accordance with the capacity plan, ensuring adequate numbers of appropriately trained staff are available to perform tasks required for a given activity level and feeding back information to Senior managers when breaches and constraints occur
Ensures adherence to environmental monitoring schedules in accordance with departmental procedures.
Ensures that an efficient aseptic dispensing and distribution service is provided to patients and staff which is in line with current standards and conforms to agreed service deadlines within the service level.
To be responsible for ensuring Aseptic Services administrative duties are carried out appropriately by Technical staff including the filing and archiving of information and data.
Complies with all legal requirements relating to the prescribing, dispensing and storage of pharmaceutical products and works to the relevant standard operating procedures at all times and in accordance with criteria set out under COSHH regulations
Promotes team working within the Aseptic Services team.
Keeps team informed of changes throughout preparation sessions.
To be self-motivated and committed as a team leader promoting staff development and to support all levels of staff working in accordance with local SOP’s and guidelines
Ensures that essential information is communicated effectively to all aseptic staff and customers and to other pharmacy staff in a timely manner.
To act as a professional role model and develop positive relationships with key personnel both internally and externally to the department.
To work with the Principal Pharmacy Technician to ensure the aseptic service is organised and runs efficiently ensuring effective communication occurs to ensure all staff are up dated with changes which may affect capacity.
Liaises with wards and departments regularly to ensure patients treatments are provided in a timely manner.
To be responsible for the organisation and supervision of the daily work of the staff working in your Aseptic Services team.
To undertake the preparation of aseptic products in accordance with current NHS standards.
To participate in the developing of procedures and policies.
To assist with the training and assessment of new staff and continual improvements in accordance with the departmental Pharmaceutical Quality System.
To assist in implementation of changes in working practices and involvement in on-going development and review of SOPs.
Responsible for co-ordinating staffing to ensure appropriate skill mix and technical staff allocation throughout Aseptic Services liaising with the Principal Technician to identify any issues.
To delegate daily duties to pharmacy technicians and assistants.
To participate in the training and assessment of Aseptic Services staff in accordance with National, Regional and local requirements
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BTEC in Pharmaceutical science or equivalent
- NVQ 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Accuracy checking qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired though training, NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent level
- Knowledge of COSHH
- Knowledge of GMP and Aseptic Dispensing
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous Aseptic experience
- Understanding of hospital pharmacy environment
- Understanding of working effectively within multidisciplinary group
Skills
