Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the existing team of Consultant Physicians in Acute Medicine providing specialist service and GIM ward cover on Keats and Wakeley ward. The successful applicant will be encouraged to engage and participate in the department’s research projects, Audits, and departmental governance   

The post holder will be expected to participate in ward round in Acute Medicine, with a consultant. They need to supervise junior doctors and teach them during the ward round.

He/she will be able to independently see patients, formulate appropriate management plans and liaise with the AEC consultant if needed. They would also, be able to provide to junior doctors working in AEC with advice if required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The job covers 10 PA’s including 8 clinical activities and 2 supporting
    activities and CPD. These will include, some shifts on the weekend. Annual
    appraisal will be carried out by Clinical lead for department, in which the
    applicant is based, and approved by Medical Director. Any disagreement
    regarding job plan or appraisal will be referred to Medical Director.

    It is expected the post holder will be able to independently see patients,
    formulate appropriate management plans and liaise with the AEC
    consultant if needed. They would also, be able to provide to junior doctors
    working in AEC with advice if required.

    The post holder would ideally be independent in performing procedures. If
    needed post holder could be appropriately trained and signed off to a
    competent level. The post holder would contribute to Acute Medicine
    teaching as well.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical Governance principles
  • Knowledge of their leadership responsibilities as a clinician.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General training in Acute / General Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
  • Experience of implementing quality improvement methods and repeats quality improvement cycles to refine practice
  • Experience of teaching doctors-in training and undergraduates
  • Experience of teaching doctors-in training and undergraduates
  • Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty, or have equivalent experience.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration
  • FULL MRCP or Equivalent
  • ALS
