We are recruiting for a Theatre Practitioner who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
As a Scrub practitioner with ideally a minimum of 1 years theatre experience, you will assist in the management and organisation of work as required, you may have to deputise for Lead Theatre Practitioner and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a high standard of perioperative care.
The role will encompass specific responsibilities for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating perioperative care and demonstrate expertise including recovery and scrubbing within the clinical area.
To provide specialist patient care in the Operating Theatre as a Scrub Practitioner throughout the patients perioperative journey.
To attend and participate in monthly departmental / audit meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the department.
Assist in the care of the perioperative patient.
Participating as a practitioner within the theatre team.
Assesses patients, plans, implements care, provides specialist advice and maintains associated records.
Working autonomously to manage a caseload of patients, rotating in clinical specialties assuming responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing and evaluating care for the designated clinical area.
Ensure that perioperative care delivered within the department is compliant with legal, professional and organisational standards.
To take an active role in risk assessment, supporting implementation of strategies to minimise risk.
Ensuring incidents and near misses are reported, through promoting a no blame culture.
Ensure all staff act in accordance with Local, Hospital and Statutory Guidelines and Policies, including Health and Safety initiatives.
Will be familiar with the Health and Safety at Works Act, and be aware of its implications and ensure that local departmental policies are followed.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register with recognised Anaesthetic course Or an Operating Department Practitioner on the Health Professionals Council
- Diploma of Higher Education in Operating Department Practice or equivalent
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information
- An understanding of resource management
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to assess plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients / clients and give relevant advice / information
- Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and administration of blood products if necessary
- Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners
