Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a full-time (10 PA) Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Foot and Ankle surgery and diabetic feet. As a GMC registered Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant, you will play a vital role in a progressive and forward thinking multi-disciplinary team. The role will encompass the breadth of Orthopaedic Trauma surgery, with specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery, foot and ankle trauma and diabetic feet in line with the department’s needs. The successful candidate will likely contribute to the trauma on-call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his/her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive orthopaedic and trauma service and to contribute to the on-call rota.
The key areas for the postholder will include:
· Assessment, care & treatment of patients presenting to the orthopaedic service and Emergency department.
· Play a major role in developing surgical pathways with an emphasis on ambulatory care and trauma patient flow
· Develop the provision of diabetic foot pathway and involve in MDT approach to diabetic feet.
· Lead quality improvement in orthopaedic and trauma surgery
· Clinical leadership in the delivery of a high quality orthopaedic trauma service
· Providing teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level
· Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes
· Abide by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the trust.
· The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a wide range of Trauma and Orthopaedic conditions and have a special interest in foot and ankle problems and diabetic foot.
· The department operates activity in the Medway and Swale area therefore clinical/outpatient work is required at MFT and Sittingbourne sites.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise
- FRCS (T&O) or Equivalent
- Entry on Specialist Register (or CCT / CESR expected within 6 months of interview)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
- Ability to lead an efficient trauma theatre
- Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities
- Ability to manage and lead an orthopaedic trauma multi-disciplinary team
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to use evidence-base and clinical audit to support decision making
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

- Expertise in managing wide range of foot and ankle pathologies, foot and ankle surgery including foot and ankle trauma.
