Job overview
Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed by the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Southeast Integrated Care Boards; and current at-risk employees within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts.
We are looking for caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Healthcare Workers to join our Community Hospitals Team at Hawkhurst Hospital.
As a core member of the team, you will provide high-quality clinical and non-clinical care to patients within our inpatient rehabilitation setting. You will support patients with their daily activities, promote independence, and encourage self-care to help them achieve their rehabilitation goals and prepare for a safe discharge home.
Working closely with nurses, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will assist in delivering person-centred care, undertake delegated clinical tasks, and ensure patients are treated with dignity, compassion and respect. You will also support junior colleagues and contribute to maintaining high standards of care.
Main duties of the job
• recording your actions accurately in patient notes
• Basic observations
• personal care - washing and dressing.
• Catheter care - changing catheter bags and changing catheters
• Mouth care
• Stoma care
• Supporting fluid and nutrition
• Calibration of blood glucose machines and taking blood glucose levels
• MRSA swabs
• Risk assessments such as falls assessment, nutrition and hydration, skin integrity
• Sub cut injections (e.g. insulin injection)
• Venepuncture
• ECG
• Simple wound management

Person specification
Qualifications, training and experience
Essential criteria
- A Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 3. This could be an NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship, BTEC or equivalent international qualification in healthcare.
- Or you will be able to demonstrate the equivalent level of experience.
- In addition you will also have Functional Skills at Level 2 (Literacy and numeracy/ GCSE grade A-C/ 4-9 or equivalent in English and Maths)
- You’ll need to have recent experience of healthcare/ working as a health care assistant gained through education, work experience or previous employment.
Desirable criteria
- You may also have the Care Certificate, but if not, we will support you to achieve this within the first 3 months of starting.
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- You will need to be able to be able to use IT systems and databases.
- You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems. You will know when you are within your own limits and when to escalate.
- You will have knowledge of up to date clinical practice by using up- to- date skills and adhering to evidence-based procedures and clinical effectiveness frameworks. You will fully understand the role and remit of a health care worker.
Desirable criteria
- Having an awareness of developments within the NHS would be an advantage.
Working Environment
Essential criteria
- A full, valid UK driving licence or a full driving licence issued by an EU country (not exchanged from a non-EU country) and the ability to travel independently are essential for this role.
