Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Neuro Physiotherapist working in the Community Neuro Rehab Team you will be supporting patients who have an acute or long-term neurological condition, in the own homes, in-patient rehabilitation units, care facilities & the community.

 The diverse caseload involves patients with a wide range of diagnosis including stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and long-term conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s disease. Assessment and treatment are provided via different pathways, including the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) pathway which supports stroke patients after they have been discharged from hospital.

 As an autonomous Physiotherapist working within our multi-disciplinary team you would be assessing & treating patients who may present with physical, sensory, cognitive, and perceptual impairments. These could include functional and/or standardised assessments and outcome measures.

 You will be working collaboratively with external organisations and developing links with the acute hospitals, charities and voluntary services.

 Further responsibilities will include staff appraisal, clinical supervision, recruitment, selection and retention and student education.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Appropriate State registration with the Health Professions Council

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable and relevant experience at band 5 level or above
  • Evidence of relevant, broad-based clinical experience to include; Care of the older person, Neurology, musculoskeletal
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience within community, working with patients with neurological conditions

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of relevant Continuing Professional Development, within the last two years
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implication
  • Knowledge of recent government initiatives and their impact on practice
Desirable criteria
  • Member of relevant clinical special interest groups

Skills & abilities

Essential criteria
  • Adaptable communication skills, demonstrating a wide range of skills used appropriately in complex situations
  • Ability to work autonomously, independently and as part of a team
  • Competent IT skills – include uses of Microsoft Office, emails
  • Able to travel efficiently
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Able to train, appraise and supervise others
