Job overview

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and families, and is passionate about their health and wellbeing. We are looking for registered nurses and/or Midwives who are interested in becoming a student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse’s (SCPHN) with a view  to starting a 12 month training programme in January 2025.

We provide an excellent learning environment facilitated by practice supervisors and  assessors who will support you to become fully qualified through the University of Greenwich; all while being employed as a vital part of our friendly and professional team helping children to have the best possible start in life.

You will be paid throughout your training and on successful completion you will become a fully qualified Band 6 SCPHN with a specialism in School Nursing with lots of opportunities for career progress.

We work in partnership with a wide variety of agencies including but not limited to local schools, children’s centres/family hubs and GPs on a challenging and rewarding caseload and we strongly encourage creativity and new ideas.

Main duties of the job

What will the role involve?
• Completing your SCPHN qualification
• Developing individualised support programmes
• Completing universal Health and wellbeing reviews and packages of care
• Supporting in the supervision/ line management and development of colleagues
• Undertaking a range of clinical and non-clinical interventions to support the outcomes of the service.
• Attend and contribute to team meetings.
• Build relationships with colleagues to enhance the team working environment.

This is a community-based role with your duties being carried out between your home, community setting, school or trust site.
We have 3 training posts available across Kent 1 in each of the following areas:
North Hub- Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley, Sevenoaks
South Hub– Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, Deal and Rural
East Hub- Swale, Canterbury and Coastal and Thanet

Interviews will be in person at a centralised location on: 3rd July or 17th July 2024.
They will be held over 2 sessions per day, if you are shortlisted you will be invited to attend one of these sessions, which will incorporate a group scenario and individual interview panel.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC PIN.
  • Evidence of relevant study at Level 6
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 1 year post registration experience.
  • Caseload management, multi-agency partnership working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with Children and families.
  • Working within a community setting.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the Healthy Child programme and NICE guidance, understanding their relevance to practice and application across the setting
Desirable criteria
  • Practice experience of the Healthy Child Programme and implementation in practice.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding in practice

  • Understanding of training needs in relation to post.
