Job overview

Working as first point of contact on behalf of the Respiratory NIV and Asthma nursing team and the Trust and deal effectively and courteously with all enquiries from GPs, patients and other departments, under the leadership and guidance of a senior medical secretary.

The successful applicant will be able to effectively prioritise their workload working on their own initiative as well as part of a team to access all enquiries, deal with these effectively and proactively to ensure a safe and smooth pathway for all our patients.

Main duties of the job

Complete audio clinical letters and other correspondence as required by the senior nurses and their teams within agreed timeframes. Proactively take forward any instructions from the medical team, including collating and sending equipment where appropriate, making follow up and new appointments.

Monitor and ensure clinics are always fully utilised and cached up fully. The regular use of multiple IT systems including EPR, PAS, Sunrise and EDNs on a daily basis plus regular review of the team’s PTL for validation and new and follow up appointments.

  • Experience of working for and within a team

  • Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines and use own initiative
  • Able to communicate with, co-ordinate and liaise with a multidisciplinary team
  • Able to make judgements involving a range of facts, that require analysis
  • Able to remain calm in a busy environment whilst working under pressure.
  • Able to communicate routine information but understanding barriers to communication and imparting occasional sensitive information
  • Basic Excel – application of basic formulas and exception reporting

  • Previous experience of NHS Skills in NHS computer software
  • Audio typing, 50 wpm minimum
