Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for two Band 4 Therapy Assistant posts within North West Kent Children's Therapies.

You will be working with the Health Visiting team using the Early Language Identification Measure (ELIM) tool within the 2 – 2 ½ year health and wellbeing reviews across Kent to support early identification of SLCN.

The post holder will be delivering the early intervention package with parents/carers of children identified by the tool. You will also work in close liaison with the Senior Public Health Assistants (SPHAs) delivering the reviews.

The ELIM sessions will be held within the local Children's Centres as follows:
0.3wte Sevenoaks
0.5wte Dartford

These ELIM sessions will be combined with vacant Band 4 Therapy Assistant sessions in the Children's Therapies team. There are a maximum of 0.70 wte sessions vacant in this team at present. The final combination of sessions will depending on the applications received.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working within children's services already and have an understanding of local offers and will already and demonstrate experience working within this clinical area.

Including:
• Working with pre-school aged parents and families with SLCN
• Have experience of coaching and empowering parents to support their child’s SLC within the home environment and in everyday activities
• Have the communication skills to work in partnership with parents, Health Visiting and Early years settings
• The ability to organise and plan their time to deliver intervention packages flexibly to meet the individual needs and be efficient with record keeping.

Staff will be required to work in the community and local knowledge of the wider system to signpost families is desirable.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of Foundation Degree Level study (Level 5)
  • Functional Skills at Level 2 (Literacy and numeracy/ GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths)
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship / Coaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Senior Healthcare worker
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of community environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of professional issues and recent developments in the NHS and Primary Care including Clinical Governance, NICE, Essence of Care

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
