Community Neurorehab Occupational Therapist

NHS AfC: Band 6

Trosolwg o'r swydd

Would you enjoy the challenge of supporting patients following a stroke?  Do you find neurological conditions fascinating? If so, then we have just the job for you!

We are looking for a highly motivated part-time experienced occupational therapist to join West Kent's Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team (CNRT). You will support the caseload across West Kent.

CNRT works with clients with both progressive and non-progressive neurological impairments, including Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease and Brain Injury. We deliver the Early Supported Discharge programme for Stroke patients and work closely with our local hospices and patient support groups to deliver the best possible care for our patients. Intervention is goal orientated and is provided in the most appropriate setting for each patient- often in their own home. Our teams are multi-professional and in addition to Occupational Therapists, include Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurse Specialists, Therapy Assistants and Neuropsychologists, with administrative support.

You will provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment, advice and rehabilitation of patients presenting with neurological problems, including addressing cognitive, positioning and upper limb difficulties. This will include patients with: Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease and Head and Spinal Injury.

You should have good verbal and written communication skills and be a strong team player. You will also need excellent clinical skills and have the initiative and drive to work with the rest of the team to develop the service further.

We offer a very supportive working environment in which to develop your clinical and managerial skills - this includes in-service training, regular appraisal and clinical supervision. Research is actively encouraged and students from local universities undertake placements in our teams.

You will need access to a car to use for work in this community role. Weekend working may be required and you need to be willing to work in the Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Edenbridge area as well as the Maidstone and Weald patch. If you have any questions about the post please contact: Rachel Bushnell – Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist on Tel: 0300 1234 145 or [email protected] or Georgina Hatton – Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist on the same tel. no. or [email protected]
