Job overview

Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust are committed safeguarding and protecting adults and children from abuse. The safeguarding team enables support and guidance to front line staff to ensure adults at risk, children and families are supported, risks identified and appropriate services are referred into to enable working together at the earliest opportunity.

The post-holder will provide Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) & Domestic Abuse support to front line staff working for KMMH by representing KMMH and sharing mental health views from our practitioners within the MARAC, to ensure support and develop multi-agency action plans clearly reflect mental health and care needs in relation to high risk domestic abuse concern.

The post-holder will have a significant role in both preventing abuse, and protecting adults and children at risk from harm through the use of data and research collection applied to the MARAC system, and attending as required the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC).

The role requires understand the impact of domestic abuse and violence on children and supporting practitioners to respond safely.

The role requires a wide understanding of domestic abuse, including impact and risks of adolescent to parent abuse, and mechanisms to safeguard families.

Main duties of the job

The role will predominantly consist of participating in Kent and Medway MARAC’s case management system, and representing KMMH in a professional and proficient manner.

Completing research and sharing outcomes with the relevant KMMH professionals, including documenting on the client RiO records; to ensure that KMMH patients are supported and protected from harm, whilst supporting front line staff in meeting this need.

We participate in Kent and Medway MARAC’s.
The role includes collating and monitoring MARAC statistics, and participating in relevant audit activity across the Trust, gathering evidence of action plan compliance to ensure KMMH are meeting safeguarding obligations in the delivery of safe care. 

The post holder will be proficient in IT skills including using Excel data base and Word packages, and have excellent record keeping skills. Experience of mental health services would be advantageous however the skill to ensure information from mental health professionals is clearly captured and shared, to ensure appropriate representation and advocation is essential.

The post-holders will be involved in learning events, delivering training, and  establishing service needs relating to the safeguarding / MARAC and encouraging the view that safeguarding is everyone’s business.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The role will also involve giving and receiving a full range of feedback on training delivery and impacts, and supporting the use of such feedback to maintain ongoing development of a full range of media based as well as face-to-face training packages. 
  • Maintain contemporaneous records, and audit activity.
  • The role requires a flexible approach to support cover when needed, and willingness to travel, and use video conferencing technology
  • The role requires isolated/lone working due to the nature of data input.
  • Training delivery is part of the role and requires confidence and enthusiasm with working and training people
