Job overview

YOU’RE BRILLIANT, and we want you on OUR team

This is a 6 PA per working week post within one of the three general younger adult acute inpatient wards based at Priority House in Maidstone.

The post holder will be responsible for medical leadership and work collaboratively with other members of the MDT to deliver quality care to patients on the ward. 

The post-holder will be job sharing the Responsible Clinician role with a Consultant Nurse (AC approved) for an 18-bedded acute adult female ward.

The ward is co-located with the West Kent Crisis and Home Treatment Team and is situated in close proximity to a district general hospital.

The post is a dedicated inpatient post with no community or outpatient responsibility.

Main duties of the job

  • To attend and contribute to the acute care pathway meetings.
  • To ensure all new admission are assessed by a senior doctor and have management plans in place within 24hrs of admission. The post holder has medical responsibility for inpatients on wards for which they are consultant.
  • To work in close liaison with the patient flow team and attendance at local bed management meetings and telephone conferences.
  • To attend acute care group business and patient safety meetings.
  • To use clinically effective treatments approved by NICE guidelines and support ongoing trust efforts to become and outstanding organisation in all CQC dimensions.
  • To offer adequate supervision to speciality doctor, trainee and non trainee doctors working on the ward.
  • The RC is expected to ensure relevant MHA paper work is in line with the code of practice and trust policy.
  • The post holder is expected to ensure discharge summaries are completed on time and the information reflects care undertaken.

Successful applicants must have MRCPsych or equivalent and be on, or within six months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register and be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise, as well as Approved Clinician and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act.

Person specification

Training, Qualifications and Registration

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Desirable criteria
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service

Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead team
