Job overview

KMPT provides a wide range of adult mental health and learning disability services to our local population of 1.8 million people in Kent and Medway. Each year we care for over 2000 people in our hospitals and 54,000 people in the community.

This role is looking for an experienced digital content and communications officer to join our communications and engagement team. 

You will help support the delivery of an exciting new public facing trust website and patient literature library. This is an exciting time as we are investing in our digital content and communications discipline to create a better experience for our staff and patients.

Working alongside the Brand and Digital Communications Manager,  you will play a leading role in developing accessible content across all our channels. Your excellent written skills mean you can write excellent web content aligned to our voice, tone and Plain English ethos. You’re an expert in WCAG writing principles, it’s application and are able to help educate others on this journey.

Please note - there will be frequent travel between KMPT sites across Kent and Medway.  This is not a coding role meaning you will not be required to code and build.

Main duties of the job

1)    Support the brand and digital communications manager developing our new intranet and support the delivery of a new front facing trust website: Supporting project management, content writing and CMS maintenance.

2)    Support the development of a new digital patient literature library. Writing and creating a new digital patient advice library for our staff and patients to use.

3)    Content management: Write, create, edit, and publish engaging and informative content across intranet, websites and social media aligned to our voice and tone.

4)    User experience enhancement: Support user research, analyse feedback, and implement improvements to enhance user experience and develop content.

5)    Digital communications: Support and work with departments, teams, and content creators to align messaging and maintain brand consistency. Plan and implement campaigns across website, intranet and social media using best practice.

6)    Information architecture: Support maintaining the information and content architecture for the intranet and website.

7)    Training and support: Support and lead training and support to content contributors on using the intranet, writing for web best practices, and accessibility guidelines.

8)    Analytics and reporting: Support with website and intranet analytics to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.

9)    Compliance and governance: Ensure compliance with policies, accessibility (WCAG), legal requirements, and GDPR.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining intranets, websites, preferably within a large organisation or public sector setting.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and web development tools such as WordPress, Umbraco, Drupal, or SharePoint (or others). Experience in website and intranet CMS management.
  • Experience in developing written and multimedia content for web and social media.
  • Experience in search engine optimisation (SEO), meta tagging and search optimisation so users can find content easily internally and externally
  • Experience working with creative design teams
  • Experience of working with and influencing senior colleagues, leaders and stakeholders
  • Experience or knowledge of working on website or intranet redesign
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in email marketing and using email marketing tools such as govdelivery, mailchimp or equivalent
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, and with sensitivity and respect for others.
  • Using data, analytics, website governance tools to understand user behaviour and improve content
  • Ability to work towards deadline within the project, identify and communicate risks and proactively resolve.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and work with tact, diplomacy and professionalism when dealing with colleagues, senior managers and members of the public.
  • Write Plain English, simple, accessible high-quality copy for web and intranets adhering to WCAG standards
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of accessibility (WCAG 2.2) and usability issues, and how to make content user friendly and accessible
Desirable criteria
  • Basic graphic design and video skills using Adobe Suite or other relevant applications

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Digital Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline, or experience
  • HNC or post A-level qualification in related field or relevant experience
  • English and Maths GCSEs
  • Continuous professional development and learning in the digital communications sector
