Oncology Dietitian

Job overview

We are looking for a dietitian to join our oncology team - initially on a fixed term basis but with potential for a permanent role in the team.  

You should be self-motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic with excellent team-working, communication and organisational skills.  This role would be suitable for dietitians who have experience or who would like to gain experience in oncology. 

It is anticipated that your clinical experience and knowledge will contribute to the delivery, development, evaluation and quality improvement of the oncology dietetic service. The applicant will be well supported by the Clinical Lead Dietitian & Professional Lead for Dietetics.

 

Band 6 development role will be considered.

 

Main duties of the job

You with work with the oncology MDT to provide advice and guidance to patients undergoing treatment with the Kent Oncology Centre. 

Your team-working,  supervision and communication skills will be invaluable, as well as your ability to work autonomously to assess and manage your caseload and your desire to lead on service improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc.(Hons) or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics or equivalent qualification
  • Current state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) or other body conferring professional insurance
  • Post graduate level qualification in relevant clinical area of dietetics
  • Active member of a relevant BDA Specialist Group and / or BAPEN

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience post qualification including with requiring advanced artificial nutrition support skills
  • Experience of managing patients with complex nutritional support requirements
  • Experience of managing complex enteral feed discharges
  • Evidence of recent CPD in dietetics
  • Experience of service development
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working with groups of patients
  • Evidence of involvement in audit
  • Experience of teaching and training dietetic colleagues and other members of the MDT
Desirable criteria
  • Research experience
  • Experience of working in UGI oncology, haematology services and palliative care
  • Experience of parenteral nutrition
  • Experience of supervising and appraising junior colleagues

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of the complex effects of cancer and treatments on the nutritional status of oncology patients
  • In depth knowledge of enteral feeding systems
  • Understanding of current issues relating to cancer and UGI
  • In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist patient group)
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and experience of conducting clinical audit
