Job overview
The Lung Cancer Screening Programme is a high-profile national initiative to support early diagnosis of cancer. The programme offers lung cancer screening to participants who are either current or former smokers between the ages of 55-74, with the aim of improving earlier diagnosis of lung cancer at a stage when it is more treatable and ultimately saving more lives.
This role is an exciting opportunity to lead the ongoing expansion and development of the LCSP across the Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance geography. Kent and Medway has developed an in-house LCSP delivery model, meaning that each of our NHS Trusts will deliver the programme for its eligible population. Each Trust is at a different stage of mobilisation, but the programme overall has already invited over 40,000 people. The forthcoming year will be a vital time for the Kent and Medway LCSP, as our remaining sites commence delivering the programme, and as we build on the significant work that has already taken place to engage our harder to reach communities to encourage even greater uptake of the programme.
Main duties of the job
The LCSP will become the fourth national screening programme with effect from 2030, and to support that ambition , Cancer Alliances are required to invite 100% of the eligible population by 2029/30.
This role will therefore play a key part in achieving this ambition for Kent and Medway.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential criteria
- Educated to master’s level or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience of leading complex programmes across multiple organisations.
- Experience working within NHS or healthcare transformation programmes.
- Experience of analysing complex data and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.
Desirable criteria
- Programme or project management qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of NHS strategy, cancer pathways, screening programmes and health inequalities.
- Knowledge of governance, risk management and service improvement methodologies.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of lung cancer screening delivery models and national LCSP policy
Skills

- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
