Main duties of the job

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust manages the largest integrated Sexual Health Service in Kent. (Genito-Urinary Medicine, Contraception and HIV), including the Kent-wide home testing, SH:UK. Our services are across Maidstone, Tunbridge wells, Gravesend & Dartford

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children).

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date had been agreed. 

Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
  • External Sexual Health and/or Contraception Courses or willing to train
  • PGD Competency certificate for contraception and STI- to undertake at MTW
  • BASHH - STIF Course
Desirable criteria
  • FSRH OTA or a willingness to undertake.
  • Post registration qualification in Sexual Health or Public Health Nursing
  • Experience in outreach or community-based nursing
  • Letter of competence in subdermal implants
  • Motivational interviewing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience managing sensitive and complex patient situations
  • Experience working in sexual and reproductive health services
  • Experience of working as an Autonomous practitioner in sexual or reproductive health
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including vulnerable and at-risk group
Desirable criteria
  • Previous involvement in service development or quality improvement.
  • Experience of working in a community or outreach environment.
  • Experience in local audit.
  • Experience in the provision of young people services.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • To understand the impact of health inequalities for service users and what this would mean for us in the delivery of service.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sexual health, contraception, and STI management
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and Caldecott principals
  • Ability to undertake and develop a range of clinical skills specific to contraception and sexual health services.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management frameworks
  • Knowledge of local and national sexual health strategies

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection legislation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to maintain accurate clinical records and documentation
  • Effective time management and organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership skills including mentoring and supervision
  • Ability to deliver health promotion and educational sessions
  • Competence in data analysis and audit participation
