Job overview
Kent & Medway Mental Health Trust’s All Age Eating Disorders Service specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and NICE concordant treatment of young people and adults with eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder & Otherwise Specified Feeding & Eating Disorders). Additional pathways have been added to the Service with transformation monies including an Enhanced Care pathway and First Episode Rapid Early Intervention in Eating Disorders (FREED) and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary all age specialist Community Eating Disorder team. The successful applicant will support this innovative multidisciplinary team in delivering the latest evidence based therapeutic support to clients, carers and families of adults and children and young people who access the services. The team is committed to delivering the highest quality service to enable service users live the life they want. This opportunity gives the successful candidate the chance to influence the success of this innovative eating disorder service.
We are looking for applicants who have enthusiasm for working in specialist mental health services, who are adaptable; enjoy variety, can working independently as well as understanding the importance of team working. You will form part of our patient focused service, providing a high quality, accurate and timely service.
Main duties of the job
As an occupational therapist you will have the experience in evidence-based practice and skilful use of OT assessments and interventions with personal recovery principles in order to improve service users’ quality of life and to support them to do the things they want and need to do and live the life they want and need to lead to build a healthier, more adaptive life beyond eating disorder.
The post-holders will be a qualified occupational therapist who are fully registered with the HCPC. The post holder will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of service users in own care. The post holder will perform advanced occupational therapy assessment, develop and deliver an individualised treatment and recovery focused programme.
Under the guidance of the Lead Occupational Therapist and clinical leads, there are opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement, with potential for career progression within Kent and Medway Mental Health Trust.
There are two main bases within Kent in Maidstone and Canterbury with a number of outlying clinics. Travel is required across sites in Kent.
This post will be subject to a six-month probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Traing, qualifications, and registration
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC Registration.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Supervision training.
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least one year’s experience in the health or social care system working as an occupational therapist. Working as a band 5 OT for a minimum of 12 months.
- Facilitate OT interventions within a range of different environments. Facilitate/lead groups for service users from variety of social/healthcare environments.
- Experience of application of Standardised Assessments and Outcome Measures. Experience in conducting ADL assessments and producing clear and concise ADL reports.
Desirable criteria
- Successfully engaging community-based partners and agencies in achieving outcomes for service users.
- Casework or CPA care co-ordinator/case manager
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- An awareness of NHS priorities. An awareness of national current policy affecting health service delivery.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge and experience and adapt to various settings.
- Thorough understanding of OT processes, models and evidence-based practice.
- Basic awareness of IT and IT skills. Written and verbal communication skills.
- Work under pressure to tight deadlines with unpredictable workloads. Time management skills
