Oncology Pharmacy Assistant- Aseptic Services

Band 2

As a result of the expansion of our team, an opportunity exists to join a pro-active, well respected and forward thinking Pharmacy Team delivering high quality patient care and service development for Cancer Services.

You will be part of the production team dealing with the preparation of cancer therapies and parenteral nutrition. Our facilities are based at the Oncology Pharmacy and the Tunbridge Wells Hospital. All staff is expected to be able to work across sites.

Some of your duties will include:

  • preparation of IV drugs used in chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition
  • assisting in the training of other staff
  • maintenance of validations
  • stock control and ordering of consumables and drugs used for aseptic preparations
  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the aseptic unit.

No previous experience is necessary, as you will undertake a minimum of 3-6 months specialist training to develop the skills required to prepare chemotherapy treatments and parenteral nutrition.

You must have good manual dexterity and work accurately, often to short deadlines. The unit is an enclosed environment and the work is carried out in an isolator.

As a pharmacy assistant you need to be willing to work towards an approved Qualification such as Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Services Skills and you should hold qualifications in Maths and English as set out in the job description.
