Assistant Cardiac Physiologist

Job overview

To accurately record electrocardiograms and to recognise normal and abnormal recordings. To fit ambulatory ECG monitors, BP monitors and manual blood pressure readings. To analyse ambulatory monitoring results and create a comprehensive technical report.

To Support the cardiac physiologists with preparation of patients for echocardiography procedures, including measuring height and weight, preparing the patient for the echocardiogram and assisting with dressing and underdressing

The post holder will be expected at all times to work within the standard operating policies and procedures of the department and more broadly the NHS organisation. The successful applicant will adhere to high standards of professionalism, health and safety, risk reduction, confidentiality, patient care and dignity, and respect for equality and diversity as set out in the NHS Constitution.

Main duties of the job

To record a technically accurate electrocardiograph, enabling the Physician to accurately interpret the results.
Ability to recognise serious arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarcts and initiate the correct the action
Accurately input data on to the patient record systems, keeping accurate activity data.
Routine care of equipment including cleaning, identifying technical faults and initiate the correct action
Know when to seek advice from a senior member of staff.
Consumable stock check
Fit ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring. Download results onto a database.
Assist with exercise stress testing and preparation of echocardiography patients
Assist clerical staff with filing, telephone queries and report typing.
Any other duties which are a reasonable management request.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GSCE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Minimum of 1 years experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Proficient in ECG recording.
Desirable criteria
  • SCST certificate
  • Experience in a clinical environment

Clinical skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • A passion for (committed, in depth interest in and enjoyment of) scientific practice and its application to direct clinical care of patients in a clinical environment
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of common computing packages for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of their own work and under the guidance of their Departmental Supervisors.
