Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to lead our Pharmacy Medicines Procurement team.

Pharmacy Procurement are a small team based at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital. You will manage a medicines spend of over £100 million annually to provide a patient focused, value driven centralised medicines procurement service to East Kent Hospitals. You will also manage and support with medicines supply shortages to ensure patients get the right medicines they need at the right time and right place.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within the Procurement team and directly impact patient care by making strategic decisions and driving improvement within the Pharmacy

 

Main duties of the job

To lead and be responsible for the Pharmacy Medicines Procurement service. To be responsible for Pharmacy Procurement practices, developing work plans and co-ordinating the management of the service to East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust and any external units as defined in Service Level Agreements.

As a specialist Pharmacy Technician in Procurement, the post holder will lead all areas of activity ensuring the delivery of a professional, efficient, responsive, integrated and customer focused Pharmacy procurement service to the Trust. The post holder will be required to advise on Pharmacy procurement matters within the Trust and within the wider NHS community. The post holder will be required to be skilled in contracting and contracts management and use their specialist Pharmacy Procurement knowledge to work with other pharmacy colleagues, Trust Procurement colleagues and external stakeholders to advise on complex Procurement matters, producing cost efficiencies, maximising cost savings and reducing waste.

To lead on medicines shortages within the Trust, being an active participant of the Medication Safety Advisory Group and Drugs and Therapeutics Advisory Committee and Regional Procurement Group meetings.

The post holder will also be responsible for the oversight and procurement of medical gases for the organisation.

  • NVQ Level 3/ registered with GPHC
  • CIPS Accredited

  • Practice supervisor or equivalent
  • ACPT

  • IT literate in all Microsoft office programs including Excel and able to pick up new systems quickly and effectively
  • Effective communicator, polite and approachable. Able to work with a wide variety of stakeholders/ individuals.
