NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Trainee (ST1/2)
Job overview
The QEQM is a busy district general hospital close to the Kent coast and surrounded by countryside. We have 3000 deliveries per year. This is a positive time to join Women’s Health in East Kent Hospitals. Following the publication of the Kirkup report in October 2022 we have embarked on a journey to fundamentally transform the way we work to provide the right standard of care and compassion every day. The maternity care has been recently awarded 'Good' in a CQC inspection. The labour ward has 8 delivery rooms and a dedicated obstetrics emergency theatre. There is a joint antenatal and postnatal ward and a co-located maternity led unit. There are specialist clinics that take place weekly in urogynaecology, fertility, colposcopy, fetal medicine, high risk obstetrics, menopause care and rapid access clinics. Facilities for urodynamics, outpatient hysteroscopy and early pregnancy ultrasound scanning also exist. A dedicated early pregnancy unit (EPAU) and gynae assessment unit (GAU) are also present which is adjacent to the gynaecology ward.
Main duties of the job
The doctor will participate in a full shift pattern to provide 24-hour cover. This is EWTD compliant and the frequency of on call is 1 in 10. Regular attendance of antenatal and gynaecological clinics. Supporting antenatal triage/day assessment. Attendance/assistance in theatre lists for elective and emergency obstetric and benign gynaecology/gynae oncology cases. Participation in mandatory training, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance.

Working for our organisation
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.
