Job overview

Emergency Medicine in East Kent Hospitals is at an exciting
period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment
to rebuild both Emergency Departments at William Harvey
Hospital, Ashford and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother
Hospital, Margate.

Our Emergency Departments provide innovative and fast
paced integrated emergency care to a wide range of patients
from East Kent. It is our inspiration to develop into an
academic and research unit in emergency medicine for Kent.
The Emergency Departments, one at the William Harvey
Hospital (WHH), Ashford and the other at the Queen Elizabeth
the Queen Mother Hospital (QEQMH), Margate, each offer a
full 24 hour emergency service. The Emergency Departments
are supported by co-located Urgent Treatment Centres, a 24
hour UTC at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital with a further 7
community UTCs in the region

leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the ED.

Patient safety, dignity and care are the highest priority and at the centre of all that we do. Whilst on duty in the department the ED consultant will provide highly visible and focussed clinical leadership - working in conjunction with the nurse in charge of the shift and the SpR/specialty doctor lead to ensure that there is effective and timely communication between the clinical team maintaining optimal patient flow.

the Trust. To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address issues arising that affect the services.

Working for our organisation

Critical Care in East Kent Hospitals is at an exciting period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment to deliver a critical care hub for Kent and Medway. A new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit is being built at the Willian Harvey Hospital, to include bespoke training facilities, including dedicated space for in-situ simulation training. This new appointment reflects the expansion in critical care.
Our team has a burgeoning research portfolio, including high-profile national studies. We work closely with other specialties and offer opportunities to combine specialisms. We offer a forward-thinking approach to flexible working and portfolio careers.
Our package of benefits includes an additional payment to thank you for choosing to work at our trust and help you get settled in – like a contribution to your house deposit or new car. We offer relocation expenses for permanent staff, 27-33 days’ annual leave (dependant on experience at the grade) and active support for study, quality improvement and patient safety work as part of our ‘We care’ improvement journey, and medical education and research.
