We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Children's Support Worker to join our professional team on a part time basis.

You will be a core member of the Assessment and Intervention Nursery team based at The Orchards Nursery Milton Regis where you will be observing, delivering care, both clinical and non-clinical to children and writing up reports.

The nursery service is delivered to preschool aged children mainly with a range of learning disabilities, but they may have physically difficulties too. 

The Nursery ethos is to assess children through observation in the assessment nursery and if required the children come into the intervention Nursery to enable them to progress using SMART targets.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a wide and varied range of clinical, administrative and supportive tasks as directed by the Team Leader of Children’s Short Breaks.

To be involved in the assessment for children health and social care needs. 

To reflect upon and contribute to the review of care as part of the team. 

To be involved in the development and implementation of plans for the children and service.

To work in partnership with other services to ensure children/young people and their families are offered advice, support and sign posting.

Your daily activities will be varied to include:

•            2 intervention sessions a day (4 days a week) with a group of children shared with the nursery team

•            1 day a week is set aside for the assessment nursery where you will take part in observing a child and at the end of 6 weeks writing up a repost using a framework.

•            Personal care

•            Writing reports which are checked by registered nurse

•            Play based activities to encourage development

•            Supporting with physiotherapy exercises

•            Supporting with speech & language plans

•            Supporting fluid and nutrition

•            Risk assessment

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NNEB or Level 3 B/Tec National Diploma in child care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience working with children - Demonstratable experience in a child care setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working jointly and effectively with other members of the wider MDT.
  • Experience of working with children with additional needs.
  • Experience and knowledge with safeguarding children

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of child development particularly preschool age.
  • Sound communication skills to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of services provided by statutory and voluntary agencies to families of disabled children and those with additional health needs.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. IT skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training on health need to be able to care for children with health needs.
  • Be able to document and recognise when to escalate to nurse.
  • Due to children being pre-school age, you will need to be able to work at floor level for up to 3-hour sessions
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with health needs such as gastrostomies, medication, seizure management etc
